What this tool does, and what it does not

This checks a total and applies the pass rules. It does not convert raw performance — pounds lifted, reps, times — into points, because the conversion scale varies by age and sex and is published by the Army as an official scoring document. Read your points off that scale, then enter them here. The scale is linked in the sources below.

AFT Total & Pass Check

Enter the points you scored in each event (0–100), read off the official scoring scale for your age and sex. This tool checks your total and the 60-point-per-event rule — it does not convert raw reps or times into points.

The Five AFT Events

The Army Fitness Test is scored out of 500 points — five events worth up to 100 points each.

Army Fitness Test events
EventWhat it involves
3 Repetition Maximum Deadlift (MDL)Lift the maximum weight you can for three repetitions, using a 60-pound hex bar and plates.
Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP)As many correct repetitions as possible in two minutes.
Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC)Five 50-metre shuttles using two 40-pound kettlebells and a 90-pound sled, scored on time.
Plank (PLK)Hold a correct plank position for as long as possible.
Two-Mile Run (2MR)Two miles on a generally flat outdoor course, scored on time.

How it is scored

  • Each event is worth a maximum of 100 points, for a total of 500.
  • The raw performance needed for a given number of points varies by age and sex.
  • The minimum is 60 points in every event and 300 points overall.
  • Sixty in every event is a hard floor. A high total does not rescue a single event scored below 60.

Your AFT Score No Longer Affects Body Composition

This is the change most Soldiers have not caught up with.

Under the previous system, a high enough fitness test score exempted a Soldier from the body fat tape assessment. Army Directive 2026-13 removed that exemption entirely. Fitness and body composition are now assessed completely independently: a strong AFT score earns no credit toward your waist-to-height ratio, and a failing ratio cannot be offset by performance.

Both standards now have to be met on their own terms. If you were relying on the old exemption, check where you actually stand with the army height and weight calculator.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a passing score on the Army Fitness Test?

Sixty points in each of the five events and at least 300 points overall. Both conditions have to be met — a single event under 60 is a failure regardless of the total.

How many events are in the AFT?

Five: the three-repetition maximum deadlift, hand-release push-up, sprint-drag-carry, plank and two-mile run. Each is worth up to 100 points.

Does a high AFT score exempt me from the body fat assessment?

No. That exemption was removed by Army Directive 2026-13. Fitness and body composition are assessed independently, and the waist-to-height ratio has to be met on its own.

Why does this calculator not convert my reps and times into points?

The conversion depends on age and sex and is published by the Army as an official scoring scale. Rather than reproduce a table we cannot verify line by line, this tool asks for the points you read off that scale and applies the pass rules to them.
